Akaba, who started his career as a picture book artist at the age of 50, was also very active as an opinion leader in the field of Japanese picture books throughout his life. His picture books have been loved by readers across generations for the dramatically produced world the artist creates in each of his stories. In this exhibition we will provide an overview of his artistic career and introduce how he went about creating picture books brimming with imagination.
