In 2002, the year of its 25th anniversary, the Chihiro Art Museum Tokyo reopened its doors following a complete renovation. It stands on the site where Chihiro Iwasaki lived and worked from 1952 until her death in 1974. The new Tokyo Museum, which reflects the time Chihiro actually lived there as well as the history of the former museum, now features an entirely barrier-free building offering double the public space of the former structure. Visitors can enjoy sitting on Chihiro's favorite sofa, looking at the authentically restored atelier, and walking through the artist's garden, filled with the very flowers and plants that Chihiro loved and tended to in her own garden.
