  This exhibit provides an introduction to the world that is Chihiro Iwasaki. Here you will find on display not only representative works, but also sketches, oil paintings, early illustrations for children, and picture book originals.




*Exhibits are rotated four times a year.


  Here visitors can get acquainted with Chihiro Iwasaki the person, through her belongings and favorite things, sketches, and works of artists by whom Chihiro was influenced.


  The International Collection now consists of about 12,000 works created by 168 artists from 28 countries (as of March 2006). About 40-60 pieces are regularly selected for display.

  Exhibitions of the Museum's International Collection or other project exhibitions are on display at all times.


  This exhibit features original artwork and materials, including Book of the Dead and manuscripts from medieval times, picture scrolls from Japan's early Edo era, and rare picture books from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It offers a glimpse into the history of this art form and provides visitors with a deeper understanding of how picture books evolved through the ages.


  The big glass windows of the Multi-purpose Gallery provide a wonderful view of the impressive flower gardens and the distant peaks of the Japan Alps. Project exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and concerts are held here from time to time.
